Re: The letter from the lady lawyer in The Star, May 10, regarding the benefits of Europe

IF I read the lady's letter correctly, we have to thank the EU for allowing us to have a glass of wine and watch football on television.

If that is the main advantage of being in the EU then I think it is a very poor return for all the disadvantages we have to bear.

Firstly, I would remind the lawyer that Europe is not the only wine producer in the world, and secondly world class football is also played on, and televised from, other continents.

Personally, I have yet to hear a single reason why the UK should tolerate, let alone belong to, the EU as it is currently organised.

The various European authorities appear to me to be totally self-serving; very keen to acquire increased authority but equally keen to avoid any responsibility or accountability; intolerant of freedom of speech; intolerant of political views which are not the same as their own, and determined to upset traditionally UK-friendly countries such as Canada, Australia, South Africa and the USA .

Didn't all the EU Commissioners resign following a scandal not so long ago? And are they not all still at their jobs now?

I would say to the lady lawyer ignore the history of the evolution of the EU and take a good hard look at the facts as they stand today

And do not forget that laws are made for people and not the other way around.

If any particular law is stupid, or is not supported by the majority of people, then that law can and should be changed.

It seems to me that not only will England be destroyed (the EU is already supporting the break-up of the UK), but that the whole of Europe will be forced into a worse mess than the Soviet Union was in before it collapsed.

For the sake of my children, I would love to be shown that I am wrong.
