THE tone of your article in last week's Bucks Free Press regarding the Four Ashes Burial Ground gives the impression of an uncaring parish council who is imposing rules just for the sake of it.

This is far from the reality.

The full council discussed the situation at great length with several visits and consultations.

It came to the conclusion that the current rules were fair to everyone, especially as the majority abide by them.

There are people who feel that certain items and displays are in bad taste and upsetting.

There are others who feel they are necessary in their grieving process, so we cannot please everyone.

Once the burial ground is back to its accepted state, the parish council have plans to further landscape the area to enable what is a beautiful place to remain so all year round.

You will have seen burial grounds that have been poorly maintained or neglected and this must be very upsetting for relatives and friends.

Hughenden Parish Council intend to keep Four Ashes as a shining example of how the place where our loved ones rest should always look.

We will apply the rules with compassion and sympathy to all concerned.
