PLANS aimed at finding an answer to High Wycombe's traffic woes will go out in the autumn for people to have their say.

The Wycombe Corridors Study has been drawn up for Buckinghamshire County Council and Wycombe District Council and looks at the town's four main road arteries.

It suggests lots of minor measures to make life safer for pedestrians, improve things for cyclists and drivers and speed up buses. Included are a one way flow round the Abbey Way gyratory, two short new road links, lots of new traffic lights at busy junctions and bus priority measures.

The study was discussed by a panel of county and district councillors on Monday where the main cause of argument was the way the public was to be consulted.

Officers wanted a paper and electronic exercise with details on the website and a leaflet to homes. It was the cheapest option.

Members said High Wycombe people would want a proper say, via exhibitions with officers there to explain.

Councillors got annoyed when Cllr Paul Rogerson, district council cabinet member for planning and transportation, said the decision would be down to him and Cllr Rodney Royston, his county council opposite number.

Cllr Royston was more conciliatory, saying he would take very careful account of the views of the panel.
