I HAVE read with interest the letter from JA and MF Shannon about Higginson Park, Marlow in today's paper (July 6 "Be very grateful to the general").
I entirely agree about the splendid Town Regatta and Festival but I would like to correct one misapprehension.
The Higginson Park and Court Garden estate was bought by Marlow people by public subscription. General Higginson contributed to the fund and the fact that the fund was associated with his 100th birthday no doubt helped with the fundraising.
Many people in Marlow do not realise that it is to the farsighted citizens of Marlow in the 1920s that we owe our park and it is to them that we should be grateful.
