ANGRY Sands resident Colin Jones has lambasted the Sands Residents Association after officials refused to let him into their AGM.

Mr Jones, of Pinewood Road, Sands, says organisers of the Sands Residents Association would not let him into the building where the AGM was being held because he had not paid a subscription fee.

But Mr Jones fears that association members are trying to silence him. Last year he claims he and others spoke at the AGM despite them not paying a subscription fee.

He said: "The real reason is that my forthright truthful remarks last year were disliked."

He has been speaking against the residents association's opposition to Adams Park and the airfield at Booker.

"Some people want to get Sands back to how it was and you cannot do that," said Mr Jones.

"An AGM is for all interested residents to put forward their ideas, complaints, or solutions and expect criticism on occasions if you are in an official position."

But association leaders rejected the claims.

Nigel Philips, spokesman for Sands Residents Association, said: "We are not a big organisation and our membership fee is only a couple of quid and no-one really minds paying that. When we asked him if he would like to join he refused.

"He was standing outside saying that we were taking people's money on false pretences.

"He came last year and I could not make sense of what he was saying. I think he thinks we are particularly anti-football but you cannot stop something like the football club and we have no wish to."
