BUCKS-based athletes were to the fore as the Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow Athletics Club maintained their winning form in the first division of the boys McDonalds Youth League.

Toby Hunt clocked up wins in the hammer, discus and high jump, while Chris Record won the javelin and 80 metre hurdles. He was only denied a hat-trick by Hunt beating him in the hammer.

The club's womens team also maintained their 100 per cent winning start in the Southern League with Helen Simpson helping them to important points in their match at Guildford.

She chopped half a second off her 200m best and also equalled her 100m best as WSEH maintained their winning starts in both Division One and Three of the Southern Womens League.

Leanne Fuller competed at the Division Three match at Bracknell and enjoyed an easy win in the under-15 1500m in a time of five minutes, 19.2 secs. Debutante Kate Faragher was another winner in the 75m hurdles.

Local athletes figured prominently at Friday's Bucks Schools Combined Events Championships at Milton Keynes.

Wycombe High School's Marika Reed, RGS's Toby Hunt and Jonathan Mace, from Chesham High each won their age groups.

Reed, in the year eight and nine event, earned her victory off the back of strong high and long jumps.

Jessica Bartlett and Helen Jones, both of Dr Challoners High, traded places with each other during the day but Bartlett gained the advantage over the final event, the 800m, to clinch third ahead of Jones.

Reed, Bartlett and Jones were all selected for the county team for the Regional English Schools round in June on the back of their impressive performances.

They will be joined by Royal Grammar School duo Toby Hunt and Chris Record and John Hampden's Adam Butler. They finished first, second and fourth respectively in the year eight and nine boys competition.

Record was fastest over the hurdles while Hunt gained good points in the shot. Seamus Cassidy (also RGS) was unfortunate not to qualify after producing the best long jump of the day.

In the year ten and 11 competition Jonathan Mace was a clear winner as he smashed his previous best for the event by a whopping 65cm.

In the same age group for the girls, Dr Challoners High School sisters Jenny and Georgie Hatton both set new long jump bests of 4.96 and 4.90 metres respectively.

Elsewhere, local youngsters competing for WSEH in the Premier Division of McDonalds Girls League took advantage of the high standard to rewrite their best performances.

Both Becky Shore and Kate McGrath ran the U13 800m for comfortable wins, while in the U15 race, over the same distance, Emily Dillon faced a field of nationally ranked competitors and took advantage of their pace to wipe five seconds off her best for a new time of 2mins, 28.2 secs.

Dillon completed a good day by winning the B string discus as well.

Alice Hands was also in flying form as she improved on her 80m hurdles best time in the U17 age group, while Nicole McDermott came runner-up in the 200m to complete an impressive display for the new super club.
