A MEMORIAL bench for the late quiz master Doug Ginger is planned for his home village.

Members of Doug's family have been liaising with Wooburn Parish Council to place a permanent reminder in the village of the well-known Bourne End man.

Daughter Kate Baynham is hoping that the bench will be in place within the next five or six weeks.

She said: "The bench was something we thought about almost immediately.

"I think it's important for everybody to have this because people do forget and there will be a nice plaque on it reminding people about Dad."

Mr Ginger, of Blind Lane, Bourne End, who provided Free Press readers with their weekend puzzles, died at the age of 82 in July last year.

The family hope the bench will be able to be placed somewhere in Blind Lane, Bourne End and the plaque will say 'In memory of Doug Ginger who gave so much to this village'.

Ella, Doug's wife, said: "I'm hoping the bench could go near Windrush House because there is a lovely tree there.

"There is another bench there which has been there since 1983, which people stop and take a breather on."

Kate said her father would like to have thought that youngsters and adults alike will use the bench to have a rest on their way up Blind Lane.

She said: "Dad was a great one for young people unlike a lot of people who grow older. My Dad thought they were brilliant and he never lost his respect for them.

"It will be good for the family also to have a permanent reminder. I will go there myself and have quiet moments."
