A COMMUNITY police constable has urged residents to lock up during the summer after a surge in burglaries.

PC Barrie Feltwell, from Marlow Police Station, said the number of thefts has risen considerably since the weather has got hotter and residents in Wooburn Green and Bourne End leave doors and windows unlocked.

He said: "The crime figures in the area have been going down but recently we have had to deal with a lot of burglaries.

"We are trying to urge residents to close and lock windows and doors, even though it is muggy and hot."

PC Feltwell said on Tuesday: "We attended four just last night. So far over the past few weeks we have had three burglaries in Brent Road, two in Burroughs Crescent, some in Cressington Place and Meadows Walk [Bourne End]."
