A NEW group of experts met for the first time this week to continue work to ensure a safe future for countryside in the Chilterns area.
The Countryside Agency has appointed 27 members to its shadow Conservation Board for the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The agency is responsible for advising the Government and taking action on issues relating to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the English Countryside.
Adam Wallace, senior countryside officer for the Countryside Agency, said: "The shadow board is one of the first outcomes of the new money and expanded targets the Countryside Agency has for the region's AONBs. Our aim is to see first class standards of management in all of south east England's finest countryside."
He added: "This shadow Conservation Board is one of the first steps towards this for the Chilterns AONB."
All 27 board members were picked for their sound knowledge of the Chilterns area and of protected landscapes and countryside conservation.
Mr Wallace added: "Our appointees have a wide variety of interests and backgrounds which will enable them to help the Chilterns AONB team to conserve and enhance the area."
