A PENSIONER is calling for a company to make a New Year's resolution and tidy up the "disgraceful" Wycombe bus station.

Alan Page, chairman of Pensioners' Voice, said he was disgusted to see the eyesore when he and other members of his group returned from an annual trip on December 14.

Mr Page, from Curzon Avenue, Hazlemere, said: "The state of the bus station was simply disgraceful with litter scattered everywhere and the seats covered in grime.

"The previous weekend I had spent time in Munich travelling on public transport and the contrast to High Wycombe was unbelievable.

"If we expect the population to use public transport then the facilities must be better than those than those currently in the Third World. Perhaps the local bus companies can make a New Year's resolution to clean up the bus station and the buses which leave a lot to be desired."

Jim Jaye, spokesman for Arriva serving the Shires and Essex, said: "The public transport in Munich is heavily subsidised by the German government. Wycombe bus station has to be kept clean by the bus company.

"I arrived a year ago when Wycombe Bus Station was in a deplorable state and we set up inroads to make sure it is clean.

"What we need to bear in mind is the thousands of people who pass through Wycombe Bus Station on a daily basis."

He also added that as part of the plans for the Western Sector development the building faces demolition anyway.
