CHESHAM Ladies completed the double-double when they won the league and cup double for the second season running.

They beat Slough 3-2 on Sunday to wrap up their second successive twin triumph but only after being given them a fight to the death.

Chesham led 2-0 and 3-1 but Slough twice battled their way back to leave Chesham's nerves jangling.

There was no sign of the drama that was to come when Dawne Stocks outpaced Slough's defence before lifting the ball over the keeper to give Chesham the lead.

And the pendulum swung further in favour of the Meadow side when Stocks grabbed her second after the red-faced Slough keeper fumbled her toe poke into the net.

Slough reorganised at half time and their policy of all-out attack paid off when they pulled a goal back on the hour mark.

But just when it looked like they were back in it, Stocks went on a mazy run at the other end and laid the ball off to Player-of-the-Match Catherine Sole who curled the sweetest of shots into the top corner to restore Chesham's two-goal cushion.

It was game-on again though when Slough hit back for a second time to set up a tense last 15 minutes. But Chesham held on.

The double double winners will now take a short break before reporting for pre-season training in June.

Chesham juniors have joined forces with Prestwood Girls for summer training on Monday evenings. Anyone interested should call Lisa on (07958) 342693.
