GEORGE Foden's letter of May 18 has kindly promoted some "trivia" from my report to the Beaconsfield Town Meeting on Thursday, April 26 to "important".

He, sadly omits the three items which I labelled as "significant".

Firstly, tackling the litter and dog mess problem at the Malthouse Square and Holtspur play areas by fencing them in at a cost of £11,584.

Secondly, refurbishing the public tennis courts at The Oval at a cost of £15,801.

And adding a further tournament grade court refurbishment in a public/private partnership with the Beaconsfield Lawn Tennis Club and the British Lawn Tennis Association.

Thirdly, best of all: Thanks to the skilled advocacy of Cllr Theresa Rossell, having the appalling mess on the lay-by on the northbound carriageway into Beaconsfield from the M40 completely refurbished and rebuilt and supplied with litter bins at a cost of over £40,000 by the county council and district council.

A bid has been put in to bring the southbound carriageway up to the same standard.

I also mentioned the traffic survey of the whole town which, with pressure both from the town council and county councillor Margaret Dewar, will be this summer at a cost of £100,000 plus.

As for St Michael's Green: this is a village green, not a putting green! It is at the moment a riot of golden buttercups fit to warm any country lover's heart.

I walked both sides of the green and only found one small piece of litter.

It has been a great privilege to enjoy representing my fellow councillors during such a year of significant achievements.

Mr Foden also mentions the cybercafe.

This is not a project that is "owned" by the town council; but by a well established local charity, Beaconsfield Community Association. I know they have had terrible trouble getting responses from the Post Office, in correspondence about accommodation.

For instance a letter dated January 23 has been answered by a letter dated May 3.

Meanwhile may I thank your newspaper for the very full and fair coverage which Beaconsfield Town Council has received during my year of office.

I return to the back benches with many thanks for hospitality accorded to me by a widely diverse range of groups during a very happy year.
