ROYAL Grammar School pupil Michael Zywina won the National Schools Karting Sprint Championship in Kent.
The 15-year-old reached speeds of 80 miles per hour as he won three out of four heats to win his category.
He needed to come second in the last race and it looked bleak when he was drawn 18th on the grid. But he did it.
He said: "To go from 14th last year to first this year shows I'm improving."
He now has his sights set on the televised Champions of the Future Series, but needs sponsorship towards the £40,000 costs.
