WYCOMBE Rye Ladies hockey team returned to league action for the first time since Christmas and celebrated with a 4-2 win over Henley.

Wycombe opened up a two-goal gap through goals from Clare Noad and Laura Lippiatt but Henley refused to lie down.

The visitors hit back with a goal just before the break only for Wycombe to bounce back almost immediately and restore their two-goal cushion with Lippiatt's second.

In the second half Henley narrowed the scores again to set up a nailbiting period before Ros Suter secured the victory with a tap-in.

Elsewhere, the reserves took heart from a 2-2 draw against Sonning thanks to a Karen Scales brace.

She put them ahead after a break down the left hand side and then hit the equaliser after Sonning had fought back to take the lead with two quick goals.

Wycombe's men's match at Richmond was snowed off, so it was left to the club's fourth team to take centre stage.

And they did not disappoint as they won 3-2 away at Hayes to stay on top of the second division of the Four Counties League.

Campbell Reeman's goal, from a well-worked switched penalty corner routine, gave Wycombe a 1-0 advantage at the break before Kevin O'Linn doubled their money in the second half.

Hayes then scored from a penalty corner but county youngster Dorian Proudfoot restored Wycombe's two-goal cushion with a precise shot just inside the post.

Hayes pulled another one back from a corner minutes before the end but Wycombe held on.
