A CONCERNED parent is worried children could lose out if a possible school amalgamation goes ahead.

Education chiefs at Buckinghamshire County Council have set out consultation documents for a possible merger of King's Wood First School, Totteridge Lane, High Wycombe, and King's Wood Junior School, Hollis Road, High Wycombe.

Education officer Paul Holmes said the merger would allow first school pupils to carry on to the junior school, which is currently not guaranteed.

But Annette Smythe, of Totteridge Drive, High Wycombe, whose daughter Shannon, six, attends the first school, said an amalgamation would be wrong.

She said: "There would be more than 400 pupils at one school but they need their space. I think it'll be really bad."

She added: "The education people want to find which site is the biggest and amalgamate the two."

Mrs Smythe is also concerned about the problem of 400 pupils leaving at the same time onto the road outside.

But Mr Holmes said the council had yet to decide which site would be used for the possible amalgamation.

He confirmed that the unused site would be sold off to pay for the merger but said it was too early to say what it would be used for.

The council has already met with teachers and governors over the possible merger and is now set to meet with parents over the proposals.

Concerned parties have until July 7 to make their opinions known to the county council.
