HIGH Wycombe mayor Mahboob Hussain is urging people to take to the streets to make this year's Wycombe Charity Carnival the best one ever.

As guest of honour, Mayor Hussain will lead the celebrations riding in an open-top pink Cadillac, which sets out from Safeway car park in Bellfield Road at 1pm.

He is hoping thousands of people will line the streets of Wycombe to see brass bands, majorettes and a host of other entertainers at the 12th Wycombe Charity Carnival.

The extravaganza is being held on Sunday with a spectacular procession through the town being followed by fun and games on The Rye where the procession will arrive at 1.45pm.

Mayor Hussain said: "We're hoping more people will be participating than ever before. I really want all the sections of the community to join in as much as possible."

He added: "The money goes to charities and it is important that people participate. It's good to see the community act as a community and for the community."

Highlights of the popular day will include an appearance by Bodger, the Wycombe Wanderers mascot, and performances from Lorette Majorettes, the Chesham Youth Band and the Sea Cadets.

Organisers are hoping this year's bash will outshine previous efforts with its bigger procession and many exciting new attractions.

Carnival spokesman Bill Potts is delighted with the new line up which will be on offer this year.

"We've come up with new attractions, including a sensational and unique first from TV's popular Dog Eat Dog quiz show, so what we really need now is a decent break with the weather," he said.

Face painting, duck racing and fair rides are among the many other draws.

Fears that the carnival route would be altered because of roadworks are unfounded and revellers will be free to enjoy the fun fest unhindered.
