US and the Priory Centre want to thank leading figures who accepted our challenge to act as a VIP volunteer for us on June 1.
They were: Cllr Bill Jennings, chairman of Wycombe District Council, who helped the Iain Rennie Hospice bookshop and has since been back to offer more; the Mayor, Cllr Nigel Vickery who helped wash up at the South Bucks Day Hospice; Richard Cummins, of Wycombe District Council and John Crick, chairman of the Wycombe Lions who helped deliver Meals on Wheels; Conservative candidate Paul Goodman and Cllr Julia Langley who helped Shopmobility; Labour candidate Chauhdry Shaffique on Marlow Age Concern's bus to visitors to the day centre; actor and BFP columnist Colin Baker serving teas at the Amersham Hospital tea bar; Stephen Nokes, head of John Hampden Grammar School who helped at the Mop End Field Studies Centre and stayed for longer than the hour he had offered (he must have been enjoying himself!); and Steve Cohen, BFP editor, who helped load refurbished tools on to a van for despatch to Africa for Workaid in Amersham.
We also thank all organisations who took part in our Volunteer Recruitment Fair particularly Wycombe Lions Club who helped with organisation. Many attended the event to whom we give our thanks and say please consider volunteering as the organisations need help. Finally, thanks to the BFP for taking part and providing articles.
Sue Berry, Volunteer Focus, High Wycombe
