RESIDENTS are being urged to be on the lookout for vandals after a play area was covered with broken glass for the second weekend in a row.

Users of the Ashley Drive Recreation Ground in Tylers Green, were shocked to find the area had been turned into a danger zone again on June 9. Children could not use it all weekend. A milk crate of bottles was used.

Glass had been scattered all over the slide, roundabout and around the adventure frame, and across rubber matting, a week after residents and workmen cleared it.

And last month parents and dog-walkers complained when they came across glass shards on the same spot.

Brian Day, clerk of Chepping Wycombe Parish Council, said that residents seem reluctant to come forward and pinpoint culprits.

He said: "I'm not blaming them as they may be concerned for their own safety but we really need everyone to keep an eye on the ground."

"They may be just high-spirited young people who do not realise the damage they cause but it is happening too often."

He said constant repairs and cleaning up after vandals means money is going down the drain.

Mr Day said: "It's at the stage now where we are not even bothering to report every incident as we would never be off the phone.

"It goes on all the time across all of our recreation grounds.

"There is no point in putting up posters as they are simply ignored and if we started we would be putting them up everywhere.

"We inspect the grounds a few times a week as it is but the damage is often done overnight."

Kate Spark, spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "We encourage everyone who witnesses any acts of vandalism to come forward and report it to the police.

"We have only had a few complaints from this particular area in the last year but residents should be vigilant at all times."
