THURSDAY'S tragic accident is just one in a long line of crashes at the notorious black spot.
There have been numerous accidents involving lorries crashing after their brakes failed while going down Amersham Hill.
But the latest crash was only the second involving loss of life.
The driver of a giant runaway tanker died on Monday November 17, 1958, in a crash involving six other vehicles.
There was a crash only three months after this on Thursday February 19, 1959. Miraculously, no one was killed when a large van collided with a bus and a Post Office lorry at the junction of Crendon Street and High Street.
In July 1992, pensioner Anna Przeczek, 67, of Mendip Way, High Wycombe, was lucky to be alive after being hit by a car which drove on to the pavement, struck a lamppost and flew through an estate agents' window.
The last incident before Thursday's was in April 1997 when a juggernaut crashed into Britannic Assurance, Queen Victoria Road. The driver and a pedestrian were hurt.
