THE events of June 14 leaving two families in mourning following the tragic accident at the bottom of Amersham Hill, have saddened me and fellow members of both Wycombe District Council and Bucks County Council.
I share the views expressed in this newspaper that ways must be found to prevent a loss of this kind happening again.
What is immediately obvious is that this area of the town has many conflicting pressures to satisfy if a solution is to be found. Measures that seek to protect one pressure may well cause added risk to others, ie precautions taken to slow vehicles may well put pedestrians at risk.
Solutions to this problem will not be easily found and care will have to be taken to ensure that all possibilities are properly evaluated.
I have been in contact with Rodney Royston, Cabinet member for planning and transportation, Bucks County Council, asking that every effort is made to find a solution.
I have been reassured by his response that officers from both district and county council will meet to discuss the problem and consult with the key public services so that the correct action can be taken.
I would ask that time be given to allow this process to happen, but would assure those who use, live and work in this part of the town that both councils have the safety of the area at the top of their agendas and that everything possible will be done to find a solution.
