MP Dominic Grieve gave words of encouragement to students at a Celebration of Excellence event.

It was the second time the Beaconsfield MP has been a guest at The Wye Valley School in New Road, Bourne End, and he presented awards to 20 per cent of the students in years seven to 12 at the school.

Headteacher Linda Melton welcomed students and their families last Thursday evening and said: "Success is a journey, not a destination."

Special awards for outstanding achievement were given to Victoria Ware and Michael Fowler in year seven.

Robin Payne in year eight, Charlotte Alcock and Natasha Wojtowicz in year nine also received the award.

Amy Al-Mosawi received the Special Award in year 10 and Melissa Warner and Daniel Jones in year 12.

Paul Butler was commended for his service to the school's library, organising the books and other learning resources, and Emily Gray was awarded for her service to the school, for her help and support in all aspects of school life.

Year 12 student Emily Brogden, was awarded the prestigious Rotary Club Award for outstanding contribution to school life.

Tony James, deputy head of the school, said: "Emily has made significant progress along the journey of success and provides an excellent role model for all students."

Other awards were handed out to exceptional students by Mr Grieve.

He congratulated everyone involved on the impressive display of talent and he pointed out the importance of the school within the community,

"Community support makes all the difference," explained Mr Grieve, who went on to confess he got less O Levels than the Princess of Wales. "Thankfully my school maintained their support and encouragement."
