A TOTAL of 80 new full-time jobs are to be created when a new business fills the gap left by department store C&A in High Wycombe.

Wilkinson, which sells essential everyday products for the family, will nearly quadruple the work force employed by the C&A store, which is closing in the Chilterns Shopping Centre.

Simon Shankster, new store manager, said: "We are a family-owned business and see ourselves as a community based store. We are hoping to employ the majority of our team members from High Wycombe and the surrounding villages."

Wilkinson has offered 12 of the 22 former employees at C&A a job.

In a bid to introduce themselves, the high street retailer will be holding recruitment events on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday outside the old C&A store in the Chilterns Shopping Centre. The new store will open in April.

Mr Shankster added: "Whatever position people are interested in, we can promise that working for Wilkinson is great fun and offers some great benefits. Opportunities exist for full and part-time work."

The company offers a benefits package for team members wishing to take a college course relating to their job.

The Wilkinson company has 186 stores across the country, selling kitchenware, household disposables, clothing, DIY, confectionery and seasonal products.

The recruitment days will run from 9am until 5pm offering information and advice on what jobs and hours are on offer. Information and application forms are also available from the JobCentres or by logging on to the company's website at www.wilko.co.uk
