PROPERTY giant Berkeley Homes has incurred the wrath of Marlow Town Council with an application to fell some trees.

The council is now attempting to place a blanket Tree Preservation Order on the site at Quoitings in Oxford Road, Marlow, where the firm is building a luxury development.

The application, which was stamped with a strong objection by the council, includes the felling of an ash, purple plum, cedar and three conifers as well as the reduction of a leylandii and a holly hedge.

Cllr Tony Dunn said at Tuesday night's planning meeting: "This is just crass, it really is."

Cllr Derek Done joked that the council could form a human chain around the trees to protect them from destruction.

After the meeting Cllr Alex Collingwood said: "The trees on the site which are not covered by protection orders appear to be under threat. The original application was dealt with on the basis that the replacement dwelling would be on the same siting and the landscape would not be affected."

A spokesman for Berkeley Homes said: "The work proposed is to improve the site and we await a decision from the planning authority."

The application is likely to go before Wycombe District Council in July .
