RABBIT fancier Jim Hounslow wrote to the Free Press after a photograph prompted memories of his father's time with the High Wycombe Fanciers Society.

The picture published on May 4 captured the High Wycombe Fanciers Society as it was in 1930. The group was a bird fanciers' society until the war.

Mr Hounslow, 66,who left High Wycombe 16 years ago and now lives in Ferndown, Dorset, told how during the war a society called the High Wycombe Rabbit Fanciers Society began as rabbits were being kept for food then.

Both societies put on joint shows at various venues across High Wycombe including the old Oakley Hall in Castle Street, in a large room above the old Nag's Head in London Road and Sands Village Hall.

His father Percy Hounslow was secretary of High Wycombe Fanciers Society from 1944 to 1960 and the young Jim joined him in successfully showing rabbits all over the country during this time.

Speaking about the photograph he said: "I would say the picture was taken on a show day somewhere in High Wycombe. The three people wearing white coats would be judges and a chief steward and the other people who entered their cage birds, pigeons and bantams in the show."

Mr Hounslow was aslo able to name Vic Corbin and Downley man Mr Youens.
