A CALIFORNIAN style graffiti wall could soon become a controversial addition to one of South Bucks' most picturesque towns.

The idea for the wall, which could also double as a place for children to play ball games against, was discussed at a meeting of Beaconsfield Town Council last week.

It followed a letter sent to the council by Bob Russell, chairman of Holtspur Youth Club, who suggested the wall for children to play ball games against at the club in Holtspur Way.

At the meeting, Cllr Ann Main (Con, South Ward), said: "Where I lived before they got children to personalise it themselves. They actually got graffiti art on it."

Mr Russell said he was totally against the idea of turning the wall into an area for "graffiti art'', and even said he would want to see it covered with anti-graffiti paint.

He added that children kicking balls against the wall of the youth club has resulted in a loss of bookings for the organisation.

He claimed: "A wall such as this is a good thing to do and I have seen them in California."

Town councillor Malcolm Dunlop (Con, North Ward) agreed that the youth club needed to prevent children from kicking balls against the wall.

He added: "I was a member of the committee of that youth club for some years. The incessant thumping that that youth club gets from footballs is cruel.

"I actually saw a football crash through a window and on to a child's plate as he was eating his food."

It was agreed at the meeting that town mayor Nico Sacchetti and Cllr Theresa Rossell (Con, North Ward) would meet with Mr Russell to discuss the matter further.
