A SCHEME to install CCTV cameras to crackdown on vandalism is going through the final stages, with councillors hoping it will soon be in operation.

Princes Risborough Town Council wants to place six cameras round Wades Park, covering Risborough Springs Swim and Fitness Centre, the doctor's surgery and the play area.

The town council has formed a partnership with the surgery, Wycombe District Council, Risborough Springs and trustees of Risborough Community Centre and aims to crackdown on vandalism with the scheme.

It has now received a quotation for the work which will cost in the region of £9,000.

Town councillor John Coombs said a revised plan was now being considered to make sure the scheme was cost effective while cameras were in the best positions.

He said: "We need to make sure there is coverage where people are doing wrong."

Cllr Coombs added that the council knew where much of the vandalism went on and CCTV cameras would help stamp out damage to property.

The council believes that the cost of installing the cameras would be offset by savings in the budget to fight vandalism

It is hoped the project will be operational by this summer.
