WORRIED Ted Samson says residents would be shocked if they totted up the extra vehicles planned at new developments in Wooburn.

Villagers and members of Wooburn Residents Association discussed the concern of rising traffic at a meeting on Monday.

It comes after Wooburn Parish Council could not make a recommendation on the plan for a business park on the former Glory Mill site, because councillors could not make sense of a traffic survey.

The plan for the construction of four, three and two-storey buildings includes parking for 750 cars.

"No-one seems to have added up all the traffic that could be on our roads," said Mr Samson, vice-chairman of the residents association.

"In the village we are going to have 260 new houses. Think of the number of vehicles that could be. Then you have the old bakery site and Deanes with four blocks of offices and one is big enough for the headquarters of a company. That was originally going to be 260 cars on that site, but it has recently been changed."

He added: "The Odyssey has a car park for 200 vehicles, cars from 109 to 114 dwellings on the site. How many more cars are there going to be? It's terrible."

Mr Samson said in 1988 the roads were analysed and they were at saturation point even then. Chairman Chris Baker said: "Unfortunately all we can do is monitor the situation. It's looking a bit grim around here at the moment."
