WYCOMBE voters will get their chance to quiz the general election candidates in person next week when The Star's sister paper the Bucks Free Press holds its second Election Forum.

Following the success of the 1997 forum, Free Press editor Steve Cohen has persuaded BBC journalist John Waite, of Face The Facts and You and Yours, to return to take the chair and keep order.

The event will be held in the Owen Harris lecture theatre at the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, on Tuesday starting at 7.30pm.

The five candidates Conservative, Green, Labour, Lib Dem and UK Independence Party have all agreed to come along and will each get five minutes to put their cases, before John opens up for a Question Time-style session for the rest of the evening.

Steve said he believed the evening would educate, inform and provide intelligent debate.

"The event is free to the public but people should turn up early to avoid disappointment," he said.

Apparently 40 per cent of people in the constituency are still telling canvassers they have not yet made up their minds where to put their crosses.

John Waite, of Little Kingshill, said it was important for voters to see the people who wanted to represent them, to listen to what they had to say and see how they responded to questions.

He said evenings like this could be very revealing about people, and could produce some unexpected answers.

"You may be impressed by some people and not by others. It's part of the democratic process," he said.

If there is something you would like to ask one or all of the candidates, send your questions to Joe Slade either by letter, by phone on 01494 755085, by fax on 01494 534015 or by email to jslade@london.newsquest.co.uk, by noon on Tuesday.
