LONELY Penny the peahen has resorted to having 'lonely hearts ads' posted up after failing to find a mate to keep her company.

Penny is just under two feet tall and has a beautiful plumage but has not managed to attract a partner, despite giving her best mating calls.

In a desperate attempt to help Penny, her caretaker Sandra Swift has resorted to sticking up posters saying 'Wanted a peacock for very lonely peahen' but has had no luck.

The mother-of-two said Penny has been living in her garden at Downley Common, High Wycombe, since landing there nine months ago.

She said Penny seemed quite happy roosting on the garage roof and eating her favourite food, salmon and cream cheese bagels.

But she added: "Recently she has been calling for a mate so we put out the lonely hearts ad. She was just looking at her reflection in the window, so we have put a mirror up there now so she thinks she has some company.

"She just sits in front of it for hours. She's desperate to find a Percy Peacock."

Sandra has already contacted the RSPCA and even a peacock home but still cannot find a Percy for Penny.

Sandra is now appealing to anyone who can find Penny a love match or give her a home with a mate to get in contact through The Star on 01494 755091
