THE search is on for the most animal-friendly young person in Britain and it could be a Star reader.

The Animal Ark RSPCA Young Animal Carer of the Year Award is now in its fourth year and it aims to reward young people who have shown outstanding, on-going commitment to caring for animals in their community.

Christine Carter, from the RSPCA, said: "This could be walking an elderly neighbour's dog, helping a local animal centre or even campaigning for animals by writing to MPs and there is a separate category for schools' entries."

The award, sponsored by Hodder Children's Books, is open to young people who are under 16 and runs until August 31.

The winner and two runners-up will be presented with their prizes at a special awards ceremony in London in November.

The winner of the individual award will win a week in Florida, as well as a special trophy and certificate.

The winning school will be awarded a computer and £1,000 worth of Hodder Children's books, while two runners-up school entries will each get £500 of Hodder Children's books.

The judges for the award will include TV presenter Ana Boulter, David Grant RSPCA vet and star of BBC's Animal Hospital, Andrea Reece, deputy managing director of Hodder Children's Books and Ben Baglio, creator of Animal Ark.
