PLANS for an internet cafe were thrown into further disarray after committee members spurned an emergency meeting.

The crisis meeting had been scheduled for May 15 after the Beaconsfield project was refused National Lottery funding.

In a letter to the Free Press, Michael Harrison, honorary secretary of Cyberfield the company which was formed to set up the cafe said that nine out of 15 committee members had refused to confirm they would attend, and that six had not even replied.

Chairman of the committee Malcolm Dunlop blamed it on local elections.

He said: "It has now run into the election and a lot of people who are active in the cybercafe will be working hard during the elections.

"We need to get together and rethink.

"I do not know where it stands at the moment.

"The sort of people we have on this committee tend to have long diaries."

A committee meeting which was scheduled for June 5 also had to be cancelled due to election commitments.
