A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in a collision with a lorry in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The accident happened at about 6am on the A4010 road at Cressex, just before it joins the Handy Cross roundabout in High Wycombe.

The motorcyclist was driving towards the roundabout when he collided with the stationary white Scania lorry near the Forte Posthouse Hotel.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Police have not yet identified the motorcyclist and PC Cliff Cornell, from Thames Valley Police Traffic Unit, based at Amersham, said it could take some time as the man had no identification on him.

Michael Horwood, of Oldhouse Close, who lives near the crash site, said his wife Shirley heard the accident when it happened as she left to go to work.

He said: "At 6am the guy who was picking her up said it had just happened and she heard a thump about ten minutes before then.

"They drove past the scene and she saw a car parked behind the lorry and the motorcyclist under the lorry. His face was covered in blood."

Mr Horwood added: "It is a dangerous road. The road is chock-a-block with traffic normally but not at 6 o'clock."

Police closed the road immediately after the accident and traffic came to a standstill on the slip road off the M40.

Huge queues also built up along Cressex Road, Coronation Road, Lancaster Road and Marlow Road as drivers tried to find alternative routes for their journeys.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
