A HOSPICE has been forced to issue a desperate plea to attract more volunteers following an increase in its workload.

The South Bucks Day Hospice, in Amersham Road, High Wycombe, is urging anyone with administrative skills to give up a little of their time to help fundraising volunteers.

The hospice offers care and support to patients with life-threatening illnesses free of charge and is open to all.

It can accommodate up to 12 patients a day and is open five days a week.

The services the charity provides include providing patients with cooked meals, the opportunity to enjoy activities, such as yoga and painting, as well as all-important social and psychological support.

Maureen Gill, hospice director, said the main aim of the hospice is to improve the quality of life of each patient within the limitations of their illness.

She said: "The hospice has a homely, friendly atmosphere with lots of laughter mixed in with the inevitable tears.

"We are currently particularly in need of admin and fundraising volunteers. Any time you can offer will be so much appreciated by the staff and the patients."

The hospice employs several fully-trained nursing staff many of who are also volunteers.
