BRAVE mother Carol Standen will be climbing a 19,000ft high mountain to help raise cash to fund research into the prevention of eye diseases.
The 45-year-old, of Trees Road, Hughenden Valley, High Wycombe, signed up for the gruelling challenge for personal reasons and is undergoing intensive physical training.
The mother-of-three has just 12 days in July to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, 19,340 ft high.
She hopes to raise £10,000 for charity Fight for Sight which funds research done by the Institute of Ophthalmology into the prevention of blindness and treatment of eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and diabetic retinopathy.
But Mrs Standen, a nurse at Chiltern Hospital, Great Missenden, needs to raise a minimum of £3,000 before she can go and is calling on company and individual sponsors for help.
She said: "Despite all of my physical and mental training, the biggest challenge so far seems to be finding the financial support."
Mrs Standen added: "Every foot of the mountain I climb, blister I get and shallow breath I puff will be worth all the pain and effort for Fight for Sight."
