A YOUTH who broke a community service order for the third time when he slept through his alarm has been sent to a young offenders institution.

Sean Vockins, 19, of Wychwood Gardens, Sands, appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court on July 29 for sentence after breaching the 220-hour work order.

The order was imposed at the same court by Judge Daniel Rodwell QC in June last year after he admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Prosecuting, Robert Horner, said Vockins was fined by magistrates last November for an initial breach and was hauled up before Judge Rodwell for a further breach again in February.

The order was allowed to continue but in April Vockins failed to attend other work appointments and was committed to crown court by Wycombe magistrates.

Mitigating, Clemency Firth said Vockins knew he faced custody after twice being given a chance but added: "He did not wilfully fail to turn up to work. It was through immaturity and irresponsibility through forgetfulness and sleeping through his alarm. Clearly he is less mature than his relatively young age would signify and he did not really take on board that this would happen."

Judge Rodwell revoked the order saying: "When I originally gave you community service I told you if you breached the order you would receive in all probability 12 months in a young offenders institution.

"You breached it again by continuing to fail to do the work required and you were given another chance by me and again I made it clear that you that you would find yourself in custody. That does not seem to have sunk in and you find yourself where you are now."

He added: "It has to be realised by you and everyone else that if you fail to comply you will go to custody and you richly deserve to. The least sentence I can impose on you is three months."
