A ROTARY club has elected a woman president for the first time in its 49 year history.

Sally Willison, 55, who is a music publisher and singer, became president of The Rotary Club of Beaconsfield on Sunday.

Mrs Willison said: "The next Rotary year offers many fun times, with social evenings, trips away and other special events adding spice to the team effort we put into helping our community and also internationally.

"Charities in Beaconsfield benefit from our fundraising events, but we are also one of approximately 30,000 clubs worldwide, and, as such, have been instrumental in the almost complete eradication of polio, the restoration of sight and hearing to millions in the Third World, aid with water and rebuilding after disasters."
