RESIDENT Alan Hill has hit out at council bosses after he said they promised to pump out flood water from his garden.

Mr Hill is fed up with having to pump out flood water from his garden in Windsor Hill, Wooburn Green, and has taken to barricading his fence with sand bags but the water still keeps coming.

And he claims that although Wycombe District Council said it would help by pumping the water out and putting polythene up to protect his property, the only help he has received is a lorry load of sandbags.

He said: "We were told by the council they would help but so far we have paid for our property to be pumped out."

"Me and my wife have lived here for 43 years and this has only started to rear its head since February and since then it's been a nightmare.

"All our plants have died and sometimes we cannot even use the toilets because of the flooding."

Mr Hill has already approached the Environmental Agency who say that there is nothing they can do because the problems simply stem from the water table being so high.

A spokesman for Wycombe District Council said: "Our officers visited the property on June 19 to assess the extent of the flooding, and to confirm the council's position concerning flood-related matters.

"It was made clear that the council's actions in incidences of flooding are directed towards assisting residents where dwellings are affected by floodwater.

"It was also made clear that the district council does not have a duty to carry out work to remove floodwater from private property by pumping or any other means."
