A MILKMAN working at a Great Missenden depot has been nominated for the title of Milkman of the Year, 2001.

Donald Ward, 53, from Aylesbury has been working as a milkman for 23 years at the depot of Wren Davis Dairies.

He was nominated for the award, organised by the National Dairymen's Association, by local residents, to whom he delivers come rain or shine.

Donald said: "I'm thrilled. It's nice to know that what you do is appreciated and I'd like to thank my customers for nominating me."

The competition aims to recognise the special service that milkmen provide to communities large and small.

Julian Packman, of the National Dairymen's Association, said: "We are asking all doorstep delivery customers to tell us why they think their milkman deserves the title of Milkman of the Year 2001."

The closing date for nominations is December 31. Twelve regional finalists will be selected to go through to the grand finals in London next April.

The winner takes home the title and a £15,000 Volvo. Entry forms are available from local milkmen.
