HIGH Wycombe have been dealt a tough local derby against Home Counties Premier League rivals Banbury for a place in the quarter-finals of the National Knockout Cup.

Wycombe will travel to the White Post Road club on Sunday, July 15.

And Banbury will be out for revenge, having suffered a seven-wicket defeat against the Bucks side in the league a fortnight ago their first league reverse in 11 months.

Wycombe also beat Banbury in the National Knockout two years ago but Banbury did the double over Wycombe in the league last season as they pipped them to the title.

The winners face a home tie against either Finchley or Wanstead in the quarter-finals.

Wycombe eased their way into the last 16 last Saturday with a comprehensive 75-run win over Essex-based Fives and Heronians while Banbury overcame Birmingham League side Knowle and Dorridge thanks to a blistering 188 from big-hitter David Taylor.

He thrashed 11 sixes and 18 fours in his whirlwind innings off 111 balls, and Wycombe will need to keep a tight reign on him if they are to progress.

The two sides are also battling it out in the race for the Home Counties Premier League Championship occupying second and third spots.

Second placed Banbury strengthened their position last weekend when they took the maximum 25 points on offer from their win over Radlett.

But Wycombe kept the pressure on as they reeled in 25 points of their own after a five wicket victory over Bicester.

Wycombe could close the gap tomorrow when they entertain Radlett while Banbury entertain leaders Finchampstead.

Elsewhere Beaconsfield, fresh from their first league win last Saturday over Luton and their Bucks Cup triumph over Buckingham the following day, will be hoping to make it three wins in a row when they travel to Reading.
