BOOKER Memorial Hall AGM was held on April 30. Bill Brockfield retired from the committee after many years as an active and practical committee member, chairman and, most recently, president. Ken Joyner, who has taken over as president, thanked Bill for his stalwart support of the hall. Ron Giddings was elected treasurer, replacing Brian Wilson. Penny Francis, Shirley Burnard and Mark Burnard were newly elected to the committee.

It was a fine tribute to Ted Constable and David Pearce that so many people attended the short ceremony, held before the AGM, dedicating two plant containers to their memory.

The organisers were particularly pleased to welcome Frances, Ted's widow, and several members of Ted's family. Don Hill, chairman of Booker Horticultural Society, recalled Ted's long association with the society and the memorial hall and the enthusiasm and energy with which he approached everything he did.

Norman Harris, president of Booker Cricket Club, spoke of the long service that David ("Dabber") had given to the cricket club as player and groundsman. David is sorely missed by the club and by many others in the Booker community.

BOOKER Horticultural Society's annual plant sale will be held next Saturday (May 19), in Booker Memorial Hall. Doors open at 10.30am. This is always an excellent opportunity to buy home-grown plants of all sorts. Annuals, dahlias, chrysanthemums, tomatoes, vegetables and more will be on sale.

TICKETS are selling quickly for the quiz night in Booker Memorial Hall next Friday, May 18. Tickets are £6 per person and include a ploughman's supper. There will be a cash prize. To check on table availability, buy tickets or for other inquiries, ring 07811 583845 or 01494 528257.
