CALLING all amateur Watercolour Painters in the Chiltern area. Channel 4 TV will be filming around north-west London and southern Buckinghamshire from July 9-13, for their award-winning and popular daytime show Watercolour Challenge, which regularly attracts over two million viewers. Presenter Hannah Gordon will challenge three local amateur artists to paint a scene of the Chiltern area in just four hours and their efforts will be shown on the programme in autumn. The winner will then go on to a regional final and ultimately, the national finals in Tuscany in September. The challenge is open to people of all ages. Phone Emma Maguire at Planet 24 Productions on (020) 7512 5197 for details.

FROM watercolours to oil. The Hawker Gallery in Old Amersham is currently holding an exhibition of paintings by members of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

The gallery which is open to the public is situated in The Maltings, the entrance to which is off School Lane and because of its obscure location, is often left off the Old Town tourist itinerary. The exhibition is open daily except Mondays, between 10am and 5pm and runs until May 19. Phone (01494) 724850 for further information.

UNLIKE Amersham's main shopping centre where charity shops proliferate, Little Chalfont has only one, Age Concern on Nightingales Corner. This very busy little shop desperately needs help and manager Cathy is looking for a part-time paid volunteer to work regular Saturdays and fill in during the week when necessary. Anyone interested phone her on (01494) 765005.

WHEN a quiz team from the Polish Club in Raans Road took on and beat the local quiz champions the Boot & Slipper, it fired the imaginations of its members so much that they have organised a Quiz Extravaganza & Disco Night for Saturday evening at 8pm.

There are still a couple of tables left for the 8pm start which includes a fish & chips supper and £100 prize for the winners. Anyone can enter, non-members are welcome with a maximum of eight players per team. Phone (01494) 727173.

FOLCS stands for Friends Of Little Chalfont Surgery which is designed to help a small local practice located in White Lion Road. Since April 2000 they have managed to raise over £1,500 which has paid for a 24-hour blood pressure monitor and are now on the way to purchasing an ECG machine. Helpers and donors are always welcome. Phone Margaret Harding on (01494) 764711.
