Bury 1 - Wycombe Wanderers 1

at Gigg Lane - April 28

DAVE Carroll scored his 100th goal on Saturday to secure Wycombe Wanderers' future in the Second Division.

The Blues now have 55 points - enough to avoid relegation - thanks to the equalising goal by the long-serving midfielder, who joined the club in 1988.

Caroll rifled the ball into the roof of Bury's net from a set piece on 71 minutes, leaving Bury keeper Paddy Kenny with no chance.

After a goalless first half the Shakers were the first to score, on 52 minutes. Bury's Nelson slotted the ball past goalie Martin Taylor from a corner just moments after Chris Marsh had cleared if off Wycombe's goal line.

Seven minutes later there was action in both goal mouths as Taylor and Kenny were both called to make outstanding saves to keep the score at 1-0.

Wycombe's midfield were frustrated throughout the game by Bury's tactics of big kicks and headers which cut out the centre of the field.

And in the final ten minutes Bury piled terrific pressure on Wycombe's goal but Taylor was up to the job and made several good saves to protect their vital point.

The Blues will now play Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Ground on Wednesday night, followed by their last game of the season on Saturday which will be against old rivals Colchester at home.
