CHURCHGOERS in Chesham got a surprise when a letter from an American church with a similar name arrived through the door.
Members of the Broadway Baptist Church, The Broadway, Chesham, are currently preparing for an anniversary weekend to mark their church building's 100th birthday.
But the Rev Gordon O'Neill, senior minister at the church, has something more to celebrate as well.
He explained: "The letter came from one of our members who had been looking for some churches around the world with similar names and there were quite a few actually. But last week one church in New Jersey, United States, sent us loads of stuff."
Members at the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church, New Jersey, celebrated their centenary in 1979. Their goodwill parcel included a book and interesting facts about their history and congregation.
Since last week the Chesham church has received another letter from a Broadway Baptist Church in the Isle of Man.
The landmark Chesham church is holding its anniversary on April 20 to 22 offering a number of special events.
The highlight of the celebrations will be a unique service on the Sunday when worshippers will be joined by Sir Nigel Mobbs, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire.
