CAR thefts have been reduced by 23 per cent after a six-month campaign by police in the Chiltern Vale area.
Thames Valley police joined forces with Wycombe, South Bucks and Chiltern district councils last October to help reduce car crime, under the banner, Operation Glitter.
The initiative focused on disrupting the activities of those suspected of being involved in car crime as well as increasing public awareness of the need to protect vehicles.
The 23 per cent reduction means that there have been 177 fewer offences in the Chiltern Vale region, resulting in savings of £850,000.
In addition, Chiltern District Council and Thames Valley Police donated £6,000 to the Skidz project, based in Castle Street, High Wycombe, which aims to help young people steer clear of crime.
DI Paul Diggle, who led the campaign, said the results of Operation Glitter were very encouraging.
