A MAYORAL extravaganza is on the cards when Mayor of High Wycombe Nigel Vickery joins his predecessors to mark the renaming of Hatters Lane School to Highcrest Community School.

The Hatters Lane school in High Wycombe, which opened in 1940, closes at the end of term and will reopen under its new name in September.

Mayor Vickery will be joined by former mayors David Fieldhouse, an ex-pupil and Jim Tanner, former chairman of the school governors.

An exciting line-up of events which will see pupils past and present try their hands at a tug-of-war as well as a cricket competition.

Former pupils have dug out old pictures and other memorabilia for an exhibition and students will show off their talents in a dancing and rap competition.

The fun begins at midday on July 14.

School matron Dzidzia Pryzbys invites anyone with school trophies from the early days or pictures of school trips to lend them to the school for its special day.

Anyone wishing to find out more about the event or who has memorabilia to loan should telephone the school matron on 01494 529866
