A FORMER pillar of the community will have a garden of remembrance established in one of the region's most beautiful churchyards.

Richard Gresham, who lived in Baring Road, Beaconsfield, was a churchwarden and treasurer of St Michael and All Angels Church in Beaconsfield before his death in 1998.

As Richard fought a brave battle against cancer, he discussed with his wife, Liz, his idea for a garden of remembrance in the sunny south side of the churchyard.

Now, three years after Richard's death, Liz, will shortly see that vision become a reality.

David Baker, a former churchwarden of Wilton Road, Beaconsfield, said: "It's wonderful that we are now able to realise Richard and Liz's vision for this garden to serve the community."

Landscaping is scheduled to start in July with completion due in the Autumn.

The church will be holding gift days in an effort to raise the £5,300 required to fund the garden.

They will take place in the church on St Michael's Green on Saturday, June 31 from 10am to 1pm and the following day after the 8.30am and 10am services in the church.
