Christmas in Ammanford is coming early

AMMANFORD town councillors have promised a bumper festive celebration in town this year.

And they say Christmas will start early – on Saturday,November 17 – in order to drawasmany people as possible into the town. On that day, Santa Claus will kick-start festivities when he makes “a spectacular arrival” at the Pensioners’ Hall.

Fourteen non-fruiting pear trees planted in Quay Street will each be bearing Christmas lights They are doubling the budget for Christmas lights following criticism last year.

Cllr Chris Jones said: “We feel traders need a boost – so that’s why we’re starting Christmas early.

Basically, we want to make Christmas more of an event.”

The council is hoping to encourage traders to stay open longer and are hoping to get licensed stalls set up in Quay Street.
