Fresh concerns voiced over new Betws housing estate

BETWS community councillors have again expressed concerns over a new housing estate.

In the past they have questioned the number of lorries going into Ffordd y Glowyr, the amount of tipping going on and the presence of a “potentially hazardous” lagoon.

Community clerk Cerith Griffiths said he had learned from the county council that restrictions imposed on the number of lorries accessing the site had been “superseded by every other planning application since then”.

He added: “There are no restrictions and no time limits.

There are lorries – including vehicles from LBS – going in there every day.” Cllr Dewi Branch argued that this made the need for a restriction on the number of vehicles even greater.

Council chair Anne Sizmur said: “It appears there are difficulties in discriminating between different industrial operations.”

Mr Griffiths said county council officers had dismissed concerns over possible movement of the nearby tip and felt the “shallow and dirty” lagoon was not an attraction for local children.

But he added that “kids are kids” and that the local authority would approach local contractors TRJ about the posssibility of putting a fence around the lagoon.
