Tributes paid to former councillor
7:00am Thursday 13th September 2012 in Ammanford news
THE leader of Carmarthenshire county council Cllr Kevin Madge has expressed his sadness at learning of the death of his friend and colleague former councillor Roy Harries.
The two had served together on Cwmaman Town Council, Dinefwr Borough Council and Carmarthenshire county council.
Cllr Madge said: “Roy was the longest-serving member of Cwmaman Labour Party until his sad passing earlier this week.
“He served on Cwmaman Town Council for many years and subsequently became a member of Dinefwr borough council. He served ona range of committeesand was the Mayor of Dinefwr from1993 to 1994.
“With the reorganisation of local government, he was elected to Carmarthenshire county councilandwaschair of the planning committee from1996 to 1999.
“It is difficult to measure the full extent of his contribution to the local community.
‘The village of Glanaman was very close to his heart and he was very proud to be able to represent the needs and aspirations of local people.
“I learned a great deal from working closely with Roy as the representative of the neighbouring council division.
‘He was very much a role model for me in my early days in local politics.
Glanaman and the Amman Valley as a whole ismuchthe poorer for his passing.”
