AMMANFORD beauty contestant Kelly Rowland is swapping the catwalk for a cycling helmet and shorts when she takes on “the challenge of a lifetime” this weekend.

The rookie cyclist – who competed in the Miss Earth Wales competition last week – sets out to attempt to ride the length of Britain on Saturday. The 22-year-old will be starting fromLand’s End in Cornwall, bound for John O’Groats in Scotland – 969 miles away.

“I’ve only been cycling since April and this a huge challenge even for the most experienced of cyclists!”

Kelly, who lives in Pontarddulais and works at Ammanford Metal Recycling, told the Guardian.

“I’m an animal lover and I decided to do this challenge in order to raise much-needed funds for two local animal rescues – RSPCALlys Nini in Swansea and also Many Tears animal rescue in Cross Hands.

“I’m a bit nervous, to be honest.

It’ll take nine days and I have a feeling that cycling all that way is going to hurt quite a bit.

“After taking part in Miss Earth Wales it’s hard to imagine doing anything more different!”
